Join us for our 2017 Timber Framing Workshop, taught by Historic Buildings and Grounds Manager, and Woodwrights Guild member, Scott Schotz. Students will learn timber framing and "post-and-beam" construction methods for building with heavy timbers rather than dimensional lumber such as 2"x4"s. Traditional timber framing is the method of creating structures using heavy squared-off and carefully fitted and joined timbers with joints secured by large wooden pegs (larger versions of the mortise and tenon joints in furniture). Unplug, reconnect, and experience pioneer life. This is a fully immersive, historical experience for children. Children, ages 6 - 13, will tend to crops on our farmstead, learn how to care for our livestock, cook historic foods, spin and weave wool, engage in historic crafts, and play historic games.
